Richard Koek

Exhibition Dates: September 1, 2022-SEPTEMBER 30, 2024

Dutch-Argentinean photographer Richard Koek is a visual storyteller. He shares his love of New York City and the anonymous people that live and work there on a day-to-day basis.

Koek decided to give up his profession as a lawyer to pursue his passion for photography in New York City. He calls himself a visual poet. In 2018, his book NEW YORK NEW YORK was published by Terralannoo. After it sold out, a mid-price version of it was released in 2021.

Koek's sensibility for the complicated life in New York shows in his photos, which are rather than a decisive moment, encourages viewers to form their own interpretation of his work. Every picture takes on a new narrative, unique to its beholder. He loves to share his perspectives, but he believes that his story is irrelevant for it is about his love for the city's beauty.

Koek works for various companies, non-profit organizations, the Dutch Royal House and government and his work has featured in numerous print media worldwide.

Koek's work has been purchased by The National Archives of Holland, The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and The Royal Tropical Institute of Amsterdam.

He lives in New York with his wife Ivy and daughter Skylar.
